Classroom Implementation


If I were implementing this assignment into a 4th grade classroom, there are a few modifications I would make.  First, I would be sure to send home a letter/instruction guide to the students’ parents so they are aware of what the assignment entails and what is expected. If students to not have access to internet at home, I would provide two options: one would be that they use our classroom computer to update their blog, the other option would be for them to draw/paint/create a picture or model to represent what phase the moon was in.  Knowing that the moon can rise as late as 2:30am, I would be sure to let students and parents know that I do not expect them to wake up in the middle of the night to observe the moon; this would be included in the documents sent home to parents at the beginning of the assignment.  I would suggest websites with moon calendars so they know what time of day the moon is observable and what phase they should see.
